This project was definitely one of the most difficult components for the class thus far. I think it was difficult because it required a lot of research to be done in order to actually write and construct the paper. I also felt that 11 sources for the annotated bibliography was kind of a lot to work with. It took quite some time to properly choose which sources I would use and then to annotate them took quite some time because it required me to read all my sources and then basically summaries a summary of the them. Once I had finished my Annotated bibliography I met with my instructor and collectively we looked over my sources. My original argument for this paper was going to be on if non-organic farming should be outlawed. After talking with my instructor for a little we decided that was probably a little to broad and would probably make it a little more difficult than it need to be in order to keep them paper on topic. We decided it would be best to focus the paper on the health effects that are associated with the use of the herbicides and pesticides that are commonly used in today’s commercial farming. In my original argument I planned to look at possible some of the environmental aspects of the topic but with the new topic I would no longer consider this. Another change I had to make was to decide where or not to focus on just produce or meats. I decided to use produce and now my argument would be how does non-organic produce effect health. Now that I almost completely changed the direction of my paper I had to redo the annotated bibliography in order to be relevant with the adjusted argument. Writing the first draft of this paper was not super easy to do because I was entirely sure the way I want to go with the paper, although once I began writing I thought it got a lot easier to see what I was doing. I had a little bit of a struggle trying to hit the word count without being super redundant. I think this was because there is not a whole lot of different components with in this topic. There really is only a few aspects and then it is just trying them back to how they effects the health of the consumer in either a positive or a negative way. After I had made my first full draft and submitted it to black board I had a turn it in similarity score that was over 17% I made an attempt to correct this however I did not realize that each citation on the annotated bibliography would count as part of the similarity so it made my score a lot higher than I expected. I attempted to correct this by paraphrasing the majority of the quotes I used in this paper. This was successful. Overall I didn’t think this paper was too terrible but I’m am definitely glad that its over so that I no longer have to continue working on it because it took a lot of time and effort to complete.
